I’ve never been to Burning Man but every year I watch it from afar.
The larger than life art pieces. The extremes of the environment. The people unabashedly expressing themselves through costume, gifts, and the intention they bring to the Playa.
There’s something so powerful about people coming together around a set of principles that are based on connection, accountability, and self-expression.
As I scroll through the photos and videos, I can’t help but wonder how I would embody radical self-expression– not just if I went, but in my daily life.
The question feels liberating in itself and something we can all consider.
- Would we dress differently?
- Would we manifest that creative idea?
- Would we start a business around our gifts?
- Would we spend our time in new ways?
- Would we (fill in the blank with something creatively your own)?
One thing I believe is that we’re all here to be the most fully expressed version of ourselves.
We’re are given the gift of being able to shed conditioning, to anchor softly into the truth of who we are.
Meaning we are living from a place of connection to ourselves, to the creative life force, to the aliveness of what it means to be human.
This creative and expressive self is available to all of us, at all times. We have an opportunity to align to it, even if through simple gestures. Maybe it starts with writing a few sentences. Wearing those silly socks (I have to say, my girlfriends and I just got goofy socks to mark our afternoon together. I got zodiac ones, of course). Maybe it’s doodling, singing your favorite song, or taking that creative pivot in your business.
Whatever it is, follow that creative impulse.
Invest in your creativity. Create for the sake of creating. Play.
Because when it comes down to it, dedication to self-expression is a dedication to our own becoming.
