At the time of writing this (May 2020), we have Pluto, Saturn, Jupiter, Venus all in retrograde (and Mercury following suit in June). We’re collectively coming to a period of slowing down, going back over previously charted territory and re-evaluating our experiences, truths, relationships, and work in the world.
Retrogrades can feel intimidating, but really they are nothing to worry about. They are here for our highest growth and potential.
When I was first getting into astrology, I’d hear retrogrades and be quickly intimidated. They get a lot of press. However, the truth is, there are retrogrades happening super often and we go on about living our lives. I’ve found that often all the things that are touted as potentials to go wrong don’t manifest as intensely as we might think.
Rather, I’ve experienced retrogrades to be more subtle, an opportunity to revisit certain themes in my life, and to come out the other side better for it.
With retrograde periods, things can start to feel more personal. It’s as if the archetypes softly land in our bodies to rest for a while rather than actively working through us.
Overall, we are asked to face where we’ve been in illusion, wearing rose colored glasses, or what still needs to be worked through.
Retrogrades often bring up unresolved issues. Feelings of tenderness, misunderstanding, or insecurity. They make us re-evaluate and put us in uncomfortable positions to really feel the shake up. Just trust, if this is your experience, it’s nothing you can’t handle, and likely something you’ve navigated before. You’re being asked to rewrite your experience in a powerful way.
During these retrograde periods things can feel foggy. We can’t quite get our footing in the different areas in our life that are being triggered. Often old stuff we’ve thought we’ve dealt with may resurface. This is all good and in service to our highest selves.
With so many retrogrades happening at once, we’re experiencing a kaleidoscope of themes working us collectively and personally.
We’re looking at where we have put boundaries that now need adjusting. What foundations have we created that are no longer serving? What routines, habits, or mundane experiences need some tending to be of highest service?
We’re looking at our relationships, our money, our true values, our connection with the body, sensuality and the magic of being earthside. We may fall into relationship gripes and even old lovers can pop up. As Rumi writes his poem, The Guest House about the various feelings and sensations that come to our door, “Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.”
We’re being asked to look at our experiences of luck and good fortune. Themes about what piques our curiosity or our larger ethics and values come forward. We may experience work pop up around our ability to receive. What wisdom is needed to be integrated at this time?
Our personal healing, the unconscious, the elephant in the room we haven’t been looking at, comes forward. Pluto transits can feel big, but they are extremely transformative and we come out the other side more ourselves and connected to our wholeness.
Joining the mix in June, we face themes around the stories we tell ourselves, and where are we putting our interests. What bits of our work that involves using our voice and sharing with others, are needing clarification or revisiting?
Overall, this can seem like an intense time, but ultimately it’s here to shape us in beautiful ways. On the other side we’ll be clearer, more grounded and anchored into our deeper selves more wholly. Embrace these periods. They are nothing to be afraid of and can be approached with a light heart.
What have you noticed during retrograde periods? Feel free to reach out. I’d love to hear.
